USU PR – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) received humanitarian assistance from Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) for members of the academic community affected by the flood disaster.
The handover was carried out directly on Tuesday (2/12/2025) at the USU Rectorate Office and received by the rectorate as a form of empathy and concern for students, lecturers, and educational staff who were victims of the disaster.

USU Rector Prof. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., represented by Vice Rector I Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., stated that this assistance was very timely, considering that there were 878 affected victims consisting of 657 students as well as lecturers and educational staff across 16 faculties.
He stated that the initial distribution would be carried out at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, which has around 65 affected students, and would then continue to student residential areas such as in Marelan.
“We are grateful and appreciate the assistance from BTN, and God willing, we will distribute it to those in need. Yesterday we collected the data, starting from educational staff, students, and lecturers,” said Prof. Edy Ikhsan.

Head of the BTN Regional Office for Sumatra, Noor Ridlo, stated that BTN distributed 1,000 food packages and funds amounting to 500 million rupiah as a form of commitment to support recovery and strengthen cooperation with USU.
Furthermore, Noor Ridlo explained that this distribution is a manifestation of BTN’s commitment to continuously strengthen the well-established collaboration with USU.
He hopes this assistance can help meet the basic needs of the victims in the coming days while demonstrating that the banking sector is also present for the education sector and society during emergency situations.
Dean of FISIP USU Dr. Hatta Ridho, S.Sos., M.S.P., appreciated BTN’s support and ensured that the distribution of aid would be delivered appropriately, even by visiting students who were still isolated.
This synergy between USU and BTN is expected to accelerate recovery and strengthen future collaboration.
As information, USU has currently been designated by the Ministry as a disaster response post campus for the North Sumatra region and has implemented several humanitarian programs to assist disaster victims in various areas.
