USU PR – The flooding that struck several areas in the city of Medan has left serious impacts on the community, including members of the academic community of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU).

Responding to this condition, USU Rector Prof. Muryanto Amin, SSos., M.Si., requested the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations of USU to begin official data collection to provide assistance for lecturers, educational staff, and students affected by the disaster, Sunday (30/11/2025).

In the announcement delivered to the entire academic community, USU outlined three categories of loss levels that serve as the basis for data collection:

1. Victims with Minor Losses:
Victims who experience disruption to daily life but do not lose assets that compromise their basic functioning. This usually includes:
• Lightly damaged house (leaking roof, partially damaged walls).
• Minor furniture damage.
• Agricultural land damage that can be restored without major costs.
• Temporary loss of income (e.g., unable to work for 1–3 days).

2. Victims with Moderate Losses:
The scale of losses begins to shake life stability but does not completely destroy livelihood foundations. This usually includes:
• Moderately damaged house (structure intact but uninhabitable).
• Damage to productive assets: MSME machinery, kiosks, small livestock, light transportation tools.
• Significant damage to agricultural/fishery land.
• Medium-term loss of daily or weekly income.

3. Victims with Severe Losses:
This is the critical category—damage strikes the core of livelihood. It usually includes:
• Severely damaged or completely collapsed house.
• Loss of primary productive assets (shop, workshop, major business equipment, large livestock).
• Total destruction of rice fields/gardens/ponds that serve as the main source of livelihood.
• Serious injuries, disability, or death in the family.
• Loss of identity documents, important papers, savings, and food reserves.

USU urges all lecturers, staff, and students affected to fill out the data collection form via the link:

The collected data will serve as the basis for distributing assistance and further support.

This effort is part of USU’s commitment to ensuring that every member of the academic community receives attention and support during this disaster situation.
